Ease Your Pain
“It’s a tough day when you realize that you are the cause of your own pain.”
My yoga teacher said this to me over the weekend while asking me to stay in the “prone frog” position for 3 minutes. Do you know prone frog?
You kneel on the mat, get your knees out wide like you’re doing the splits and then lay forward on the mat…
One minute in prone frog and she drops the bomb. “It’s a tough day when you realize that you are the cause of your own pain.”
We still have two more minutes to lay in this…pain...physical at first and now there was a mental component to process…crap – I do cause my own pain.
I thought about crying.
The coach in me asked – ok, then how can I make this NOT painful?
Breathing deeply helped.
Focusing on what was going well in prone frog helped a little more. The stretch on my hip flexors was amazing, so I thought about that while breathing deeply...and eventually the 3 minutes ended. (thank god)
What do you do when you are feeling pain?
Can you find your breath?
Can you focus on what is going well?
More importantly, the takeaway: What am I doing in my life to cause pain for myself? Because that, I should be able to stop.
